Why & How ?
Why?
This is ideal upgrade for those BMW F10 models, especially 2010 - 2012 models
came with 7.2" screen and CIC-HIGH spec iDrive.
Not just having a big screen, but also grants Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in HD wide screen,
that will provide both touchscreen & compatibility with existing iDrive control pad.
*Android auto will only rely on touch screen function.
How?
It involves with replacing the display in the car, hence the original display - whether it is
7.2" or 10.2" display, will be taken out and our display fits in.
It will use same video connection and own loom to receive power / info through
original connectors those were mean to be plugged between display and iDrive headunit.
As we replace display only, the iDrive headunit and rest of functions will be retained.
The display comes with 10.2" touch display, and also on board Android OS, along with
CarPlay / Android Auto license embeded.
Both CarPlay & Android Auto will work
with control pad and dial knob.
Press and hold of MENU button
will switch the display mode between
CarPlay / Android auto and iDrive.
FOR ANDROID AUTO :
It will only relly on touch screen,
not the iDrive dia pad.
We install dedicated USB input for the CarPlay / Android Auto.
As the original one in the vehicle is for Mercedes' original Media interface and the whole USB function will go obsolete.
Like in photo, USB3.0 extension with flush mount port will be installed
and connecting your phone will not only initate CarPlay / Android auto
but also charges the phone as well.
